What were you doing before Benetech that led you here?
I have a diverse background leading high performing teams in technology, publishing and public service. I was a Publishing Manager at Macmillan Computer Publishing, worked for Sybex, Inc. and prior to Benetech was Executive Director of the San Mateo County Workforce Investment Board. I was looking for a place where I could apply my professional skills and experience so as to make a significant impact. Benetech offered the perfect job that allowed me to do just that.
What is the best part about your job at Benetech?
The best parts about working at Benetech are our dedicated staff and our mission. More particularly, in my own niche, what I appreciate most is the connection to our Bookshare members. It’s so gratifying to know that we’re helping them every day, whether on the phone or over email, getting them the books they need.
Thinking about Benetech’s future, what are you most excited about?
I’m excited to envision the day in which we’d be able to say that every student we work with has every single book they need at the same time as their peers without disabilities. More broadly, when I think about Benetech’s future, I’m excited about the innovation we’ll have helped create and which I can’t see yet. We don’t know what the future holds in terms of our operations, but I’m certain that Benetech will be able to make a big difference in the world. The fact that we’re aiming at improving whole sectors of society, not just making incremental changes, is very meaningful to me.
