Brian Behlendorf, CTO of the World Economic Forum, is a technologist, advisor, and consultant specializing in Open Source software systems and communities. He was an advisor to the Department of Health and Human Services in 2010 and to the White House in 2009. Brian co-founded CollabNet in 1999 with O’Reilly and Associates, and served as its CTO as it grew to 200 employees and $30M in yearly bookings in products and services for globally distributed software development.

Today Brian serves on CollabNet’s Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of the Mozilla Foundation and Revolution Computing. Prior to founding CollabNet, Brian led the public development of the Apache HTTPD web server, and the incorporation of the Apache Software Foundation around that community. He has also held founding roles at the Open Source Initiative,, Wired Magazine and Hotwired, the first ad-supported content site. Brian is very keen to see Open Source tools and practices applied to social issues and societal challenges. Brian can be reached at
